Vision and Strategy

Our philosophy of efficient, compact, and precise innovation goes beyond technology. It encompasses our aspiration to use our technology to help overcome global environmental problems and other societal issues, to enrich people’s lives and to make a better world. Our Environmental Vision sets out our commitment to becoming carbon negative and underground resource free by 2050.

Our Environmental Vision 2050

We are committed to becoming carbon-negative and underground-resource-free by 2050. This means eliminating greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain and ending the use of non-renewable underground resources such as crude oil and metals.

Our 2030 targets

Our 2030 climate goals are key milestones on the path to achieving our Environmental Vision 2050.

Validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) since 2018, these goals were strengthened following our global transition to 100% renewable electricity in 2023, which enabled us to meet previous targets ahead of schedule.

In June 2025, the SBTi approved our revised 2030 goals, confirming they align with the latest climate science:

  • Reduce total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions1 by 55% by 2030, including a 90% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions1.

  • Reduce total Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions1 by 90% by 2050 and reach net-zero within 2050.

100% renewable electricity

To support our Environmental Vision 2050 and deliver on our 2030 climate goals, all Epson Group sites worldwide now operate on 100% renewable electricity, a transition completed in December 2023.2

Our renewable mix includes solar, wind, hydro, and, in some regions, biomass and geothermal energy. Using locally produced renewable energy — such as biomass fuels made from palm kernel shells — helps cut transport emissions, strengthen regional economies, and increase environmental awareness.

This milestone marks a major step in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and building an energy foundation that supports our long-term path to decarbonisation.

Underground resource-free manufacturing

Building on our shift to renewable electricity, we’re transforming how materials are sourced and used in manufacturing.

We’re increasing the use of recycled plastics, developing paper-based packaging using our Dry Fiber Technology, and expanding product recycling programmes to keep resources in use for longer.

Together, these initiatives support our goal of achieving underground-resource-free manufacturing, including the use of 100% recycled materials in our products.

Decarbonising logistics

Achieving our climate goals means addressing emissions beyond manufacturing. We’re decarbonising our logistics by improving transport efficiency, optimising routes, and introducing alternative shipping fuels such as biodiesel and green methanol.

Through smarter shipping and higher load efficiency, we’re cutting greenhouse gas emissions from transport and building a logistics network that supports our Environmental Vision 2050.
